For most domains, the transfer starts immediately after entering the correct transfer code (EPP code). In many cases, the process is completed within a few hours. Depending on the domain extension, however, it can also take several days, for example when a mandatory waiting period applies.
Waiting period for international extensions
Domains with an international extension (such as .com or .net) have a waiting period of five days. This is a requirement of ICANN, the umbrella organisation for international domain names. During this period, the current registrar has the opportunity to object to the transfer.
Don’t want to wait five days? Then ask your current provider whether they are willing to approve the transfer early. Another option is to have your current provider change the nameservers to Kyzoe’s in the meantime, or to adjust the DNS records there. Feel free to contact us if you need help with this.
Overview per extension
| Extension | Procedure |
|---|---|
| .nl | The transfer is completed immediately after entering the correct transfer code. |
| .eu | The transfer is completed immediately after entering the correct transfer code. |
| .be | An e-mail with the transfer code is sent to the current domain holder. After entering the code in the Kyzoe client area, the transfer is completed immediately. |
| Other | International extensions (such as .com or .net) have a waiting period of five days before the domain is fully transferred. |
Possible causes of delay
There are several factors that can delay the transfer and over which Kyzoe does not always have any control. Think of situations where:
- the transfer code entered is incorrect
- a confirmation e-mail is not responded to
- the e-mail address of the administrative contact is incorrect (or no longer valid)
- the current provider objects and cancels the transfer
- approval from the registry managing the extension is still pending
Tip: have the TTL lowered
For a smoother transfer and faster activation of your SSL certificate, we recommend having your current provider set the TTL value of your domain name as low as possible at least 24 hours before the transfer.
Good to know
You can postpone the start of the transfer procedure by specifying a preferred start date when ordering. The transfer will then only be initiated on that date. This option is available when you place your order via your Kyzoe client area.
