Transferring (moving away) or cancelling a domain name is not always possible straight away. This can have several causes:
1. 60-day registration period
For some extensions, such as .com, a mandatory waiting period applies.
If a domain name was registered less than 60 days ago or has recently been transferred, it cannot be transferred again yet. You will need to wait until this period has passed before you can start the transfer.
2. Domain lock (Registrar Lock)
Domain names are often protected with a so-called lock to prevent unwanted transfers.
If this lock is active, the transfer cannot go ahead. In that case, contact your current provider and ask them to remove the domain lock. You can then restart the transfer.
3. Confirmation email not approved
With a domain transfer, a confirmation email is often sent to the domain holder and/or the administrative contact registered for the domain. If this email is not confirmed in time, the transfer will be cancelled automatically.
So always check that the domain’s contact details are correct and up to date, and update them if necessary before you request the transfer.
